Brewers beat Dodgers 2-1 in NLCS opener

MILWAUKEE — The Milwaukee Brewers are one win closer to exorcising last October's demons.

Brice Turang’s fourth-inning solo shot tied it, Luis Lara’s fifth-inning single won it, and the Brewers beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 2-1 in Sunday’s NLCS opener at American Family Field to take a 1-0 series lead.

The Dodgers struck first when Andy Pages singled home Shohei Ohtani in the second. Turang answered with a solo homer off Tarik Skubal in the fourth, and Lara plated Garrett Mitchell an inning later for the winner.

Jacob Misiorowski labored through 4 1/3 innings, surrendering five hits and a run on 94 pitches. DL Hall finished the fifth and picked up the win in relief, while Trevor Megill worked a scoreless ninth for the save. Skubal took the loss despite seven strikeouts over five innings.

Los Angeles outhit Milwaukee 7-6 but went just 1-for-6 with runners in scoring position. Neither team committed an error.

The road to the World Series continues Monday with a championship-series doubleheader. The NLCS resumes at 3 p.m. MT with Yoshinobu Yamamoto facing Logan Henderson in Game 2, and the ALCS opens at 6 p.m. MT when the Cleveland Guardians visit the Tampa Bay Rays. The Rays and Guardians meet again Tuesday at 6 p.m. MT for ALCS Game 2, while the NLCS shifts to Los Angeles on Wednesday with Robert Gasser slated to start Game 3 for Milwaukee.
