MLB playoffs: Rays go up 2-0 on Yankees as three teams move within a win of the LCS

The Tampa Bay Rays are one win away from the American League Championship Series.

Tampa Bay beat the New York Yankees 5-2 on Monday night at Tropicana Field to take a 2-0 lead in their best-of-five AL Division Series. The Yankees committed four errors, including three in a sloppy first inning — the first team to make three errors in the opening frame of a postseason game since the 1975 Oakland Athletics.

Drew Rasmussen set the tone in Saturday's 1-0 Game 1 win, carrying a no-hitter into the eighth inning. Jonathan Aranda's third-inning solo homer off Gerrit Cole was the only run of the game. The series shifts to Yankee Stadium for Game 3 on Wednesday, where a Rays win ends the Yankees' season.

White Sox keep rolling

The Chicago White Sox are 4-0 this postseason and one win from their first ALCS appearance since 2005. After sweeping Houston in the Wild Card Series, they took both games in Cleveland — 3-0 on Munetaka Murakami's 440-foot homer Saturday, then 4-3 on Monday behind Chase Meidroth's 2-for-3 night with a homer and three RBIs and five scoreless innings from the bullpen.

Game 3 is Wednesday in Chicago, where a White Sox win eliminates the Guardians.

Brewers on the brink

Milwaukee protected home field with 3-2 and 4-3 wins over the San Diego Padres and can finish the sweep in Game 3 on Tuesday night in San Diego. The Padres face elimination.

Dodgers, Braves even

Atlanta answered in Game 2, beating the Dodgers 3-2 on Sunday to even the NLDS at one game apiece. Michael Harris II tripled and scored the go-ahead run in the fifth and added an RBI double in the seventh, finishing a homer short of the cycle. The Dodgers went 0-for-8 with runners in scoring position, with both runs coming on solo homers from Freddie Freeman and Max Muncy.
