Stampeders sign RB Tre Stewart, release DL Nevaeh Sanders

CALGARY — The Calgary Stampeders added depth to their backfield Monday, signing US running back Tre Stewart.

Stewart, 23, is coming off a big senior season at Jacksonville State, where he ran for 1,638 yards and 25 touchdowns on 278 carries and earned first-team all-Conference USA honours. He spent his first three college seasons at Division II Limestone, piling up 2,994 rushing yards and 24 touchdowns in 32 games.

The 5-foot-9, 192-pound back has been around. Minnesota signed him as an undrafted free agent in 2025 and he played three preseason games for the Vikings. He also saw preseason action with Arizona and played five games for the Orlando Storm of the UFL earlier this year.

To make room, Calgary released US defensive lineman Nevaeh Sanders, who had been on the practice roster since Sept. 14.
