Flames blanked in Edmonton as Cooley exits early

EDMONTON — The Calgary Flames were shut out 4-0 by the Edmonton Oilers at Rogers Place on Wednesday night, a loss that ended Calgary's four-game winning streak and cost the Flames goaltender Devin Cooley.

Mathieu Joseph opened the scoring in the first period, finishing a Connor McDavid feed at the side of the net. Simon Nemec lost his man behind him on the play.

Cooley was hurt in a first-period collision with Edmonton's Colton Dach, who was called for goaltender interference on the play. Cooley finished the period but did not come out for the second, and the Flames announced he would not return with a lower-body injury. Dustin Wolf took over in goal and allowed three goals the rest of the way. Calgary also lost forward Brennan Othmann, who did not return with an upper-body injury.

Mattias Ekholm scored in the second period, and Kasperi Kapanen and Alex Formenton added goals in the third. McDavid and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins each finished with two assists, and Tristan Jarry made 24 saves for the shutout.
