Frazier Returns as Stampeders Prepare for Grey Cup Champion Roughriders
CALGARY — The Calgary Stampeders have added depth to their defensive front ahead of a key early-season test, re-signing U.S. defensive lineman Savio Frazier as they prepare to host the defending Grey Cup champion Saskatchewan Roughriders on Saturday at McMahon Stadium.
Frazier originally signed with Calgary on Nov. 19, 2025, before being released during training camp on May 13. The 6-foot, 295-pound lineman now rejoins the club as the Stampeders continue preparations for a Week 3 matchup against one of the CFL's top contenders.
The former Miami (Ohio) standout appeared in 14 games for the RedHawks during his senior collegiate season, recording 24 tackles, five tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks while earning the team's Defensive Newcomer of the Year award.
Prior to transferring to Miami, Frazier spent three seasons at Mercer University, where he accumulated 74 tackles, 12 tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks, one forced fumble and two fumble recoveries over 33 games.
His return comes as Calgary continues to manage several injuries on the defensive side of the ball.
Defensive lineman Elijah Hills and linebacker R.J. Moten did not participate in Tuesday's practice because of hamstring injuries, while linebacker Eric Rascoe was sidelined with a back injury. Defensive back Anton Haie was limited with a hamstring issue.
There was more encouraging news elsewhere on the injury report. Defensive linemen Jaylon Hutchings and Folarin Orimolade were both full participants, as was defensive back Morice Blackwell II. Receiver Clark Barnes remained limited with a hamstring injury.
While Frazier's immediate role remains to be determined, the move provides Calgary with another option along the defensive front as the Stampeders look to rebound from their season-opening loss and prepare for Saturday's 5 p.m. MT kickoff against Saskatchewan.
