CALGARY — Eric Lindros’ place among the most dominant players in Canadian Hockey League history is now reflected in the CHL’s 50th anniversary countdown.
The Oshawa Generals and OHL alumnus was named No. 7 on the CHL’s Top 50 Players of the Last 50 Years list, recognizing a major junior career that helped shape one of hockey’s most imposing modern stars.
Lindros played parts of three seasons with Oshawa from 1989 to 1992, recording 216 points, including 97 goals and 119 assists, in just 95 regular-season games. His mix of size, skill, scoring touch and physical force made him one of the most difficult players to handle in OHL history.
His rookie season helped launch Oshawa to the 1990 OHL championship and Memorial Cup title. Lindros had 36 points in 25 regular-season games, then matched that total with 36 more points in 17 playoff games.
The following year, he authored one of the great seasons in major junior history. In 1990-91, Lindros led the OHL with 149 points, including 71 goals and 78 assists, in 57 games. He won the Eddie Powers Memorial Trophy as the league scoring champion, the Red Tilson Trophy as OHL MVP, CHL Player of the Year and the CHL Top Prospect Award.
He also set the OHL single-season record with 16 game-winning goals, a mark that remains tied for the league record.
Lindros was selected first overall by the Québec Nordiques in the 1991 NHL Draft and went on to record 865 points in 760 NHL regular-season games with the Philadelphia Flyers, New York Rangers, Toronto Maple Leafs and Dallas Stars.
His NHL peak included the 1994-95 Hart Trophy and Ted Lindsay Award, along with a central role on Philadelphia’s famed “Legion of Doom” line with John LeClair and Mikael Renberg.
Internationally, Lindros won World Junior gold with Canada in 1990 and 1991, Canada Cup gold in 1991 and Olympic gold in 2002. He was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2016 and named one of the NHL’s 100 Greatest Players in 2017.
The CHL will continue revealing the remaining Top 10 players in the coming days.
