Luke Philp returns as Wranglers add three forwards for 2026-27
The Calgary Wranglers have added experience, youth and organizational depth up front, announcing Thursday the signing of forwards Luke Philp and Ryder Boulton, along with the re-signing of Carter Wilkie to AHL contracts.
Philp headlines the group as he returns to the Calgary Flames organization following a season in Sweden with Färjestad BK of the SHL. The Canmore, Alta., product recorded 35 points in 52 games overseas after spending six seasons in the American Hockey League.
Before heading to Europe, Philp appeared in 281 AHL games with Stockton, Rockford and Hershey, compiling 89 goals and 92 assists for 181 points. He also made three NHL appearances with the Chicago Blackhawks.
The 30-year-old gives the Wranglers an experienced forward capable of contributing offensively while providing leadership to a roster that continues to blend veteran players with younger prospects.
Calgary also signed Ryder Boulton after he completed his junior career in the Ontario Hockey League. The 20-year-old spent last season with the Brantford Bulldogs, appearing in 48 games while recording 79 penalty minutes.
Boulton brings a winning pedigree after capturing two OHL championships and a Memorial Cup during his time with the London Knights before finishing his junior career in Brantford.
Meanwhile, Calgary native Carter Wilkie will return to the Wranglers for the 2026-27 season after splitting last year between the AHL and ECHL.
Wilkie appeared in 27 games with the Wranglers, registering three points, while adding seven goals and six assists in 14 games with the Rapid City Rush.
The trio represents three different additions to Calgary's forward group: an established AHL veteran returning to the organization, a young player making the jump from junior hockey, and a familiar depth option returning for another season as the Wranglers continue shaping their roster for 2026-27.
