KELWONA, B.C. — The Kitchener Rangers did more than win Monday night.

They announced themselves as the team to beat at the 2026 Memorial Cup.

Captain Cameron Reid delivered a four-point performance as the Rangers overwhelmed the Everett Silvertips 6-2 at Prospera Place, clinching a semifinal berth while strengthening their case as tournament favourites.

Kitchener improved to 2-0 in round-robin play, while Everett dropped to 1-1.

The final score looked lopsided. The underlying numbers looked even stranger.

Everett outshot Kitchener 40-28 and carried much of the play, but the Rangers buried chances at a ruthless rate, scoring on more than 21 percent of their shots while receiving a .950 save percentage from goaltender Christian Kirsch, who stopped 38 shots.

Everett generated volume. Kitchener generated damage.

The Rangers have now scored 11 goals through their first two tournament games and are averaging 5.5 goals per game in Kelowna.

Reid opened the scoring just 3:05 into the first period. Jack Pridham added a power-play marker later in the frame to give Kitchener a 2-0 lead before Everett answered through Matias Vanhanen.

The Silvertips pushed harder in the second.

Rylan Gould tied the game 2-2 at 8:21, and for a brief stretch the Western Hockey League champions appeared poised to seize momentum.

Instead, Kitchener detonated the game.

The Rangers scored three times in less than five minutes during a devastating second-period surge that broke Everett apart. Christian Humphreys restored the lead at 9:46 before Gabriel Chiarot extended it midway through the frame. Pridham then buried his second of the night at 14:23 to push the Rangers ahead 5-2.

Reid factored into all three goals during the stretch and finished with one goal and three assists in a commanding captain’s performance.

By the third period, the Silvertips looked stunned.

Kitchener never allowed Everett fully back into the game despite the mounting shot totals, while consistently capitalizing on defensive breakdowns and counterattack opportunities. Cameron Arquette added the Rangers’ sixth goal late in regulation to complete the rout.

The victory officially guaranteed Kitchener a place in the semifinal round and reinforced the growing belief that the Ontario Hockey League champions may now be the benchmark team at the Memorial Cup.
