Mills earns CFL weekly honour after powering Calgary comeback bid

CALGARY — Dedrick Mills’ role in nearly completing a 19-point comeback did not go unnoticed.



The Calgary Stampeders running back was named one of the CFL’s three Players of the Week after producing 168 yards from scrimmage and two touchdowns in Saturday’s 38-32 loss to the Montreal Alouettes at McMahon Stadium.



Mills carried 15 times for 130 yards and a touchdown, caught three passes for 38 yards and another score and added a two-point conversion.



He generated 117 scrimmage yards after halftime as Calgary erased a 22-3 deficit and tied the game at 32 with just over three minutes remaining. Montreal reclaimed the lead on Davis Alexander’s 27-yard touchdown pass to Kaseem Ferdinand with 1:04 left before Calgary’s final drive ended inside the Alouettes’ 10-yard line.



The performance continued a strong start for Mills, who leads all CFL running backs with 85 carries and 524 rushing yards through six games. He has surpassed 100 yards three times while scoring twice on the ground and recording the first two receiving touchdowns of his CFL career.



Mills joined Calgary in 2022 and has developed into one of the league’s leading running backs. The Waycross, Georgia, native was named a CFL all-star in 2025.



He is the second Stampeder recognized this season, joining quarterback Vernon Adams Jr., who earned the honour following Week 5.
