Canada falls 1-0 to the United States; women’s Denmark series takes centre stage

Canada's men fell 1-0 to the United States in Tuesday's international friendly at Allianz Field in Saint Paul, Minnesota, with Ellis scoring the only goal in the 29th minute.

The result ends a strong window for Canada, which arrived in Minnesota with back-to-back clean sheets and wins in each of the last two meetings with the United States.

Attention now turns to the women's side. Canada hosts Denmark on Friday, Oct. 9 at Stade Saputo in Montréal (5 p.m. MT) and Monday, Oct. 12 at BMO Field in Toronto (1:30 p.m. MT) in its final international window before November's Concacaf W Championship, where World Cup and Olympic berths are at stake.

Calgary forward Kaylee Hunter is among head coach Casey Stoney's selections. The 18-year-old AFC Toronto player scored four goals at the recent FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup, including three against France in the round of 16.

Monday's match in Toronto will also be Allysha Chapman's 100th and final international appearance, while former forward Melissa Tancredi will be honoured at halftime for her induction into the Canada Soccer Hall of Fame.

Both games air on TSN and OneSoccer.
