Everett beats Chicoutimi 5-3 at Memorial Cup

KELOWNA, B.C. — The Everett Silvertips scored three unanswered goals in the second period Saturday night to defeat the Chicoutimi Saguenéens 5-3 in Game 2 of the 2026 Memorial Cup.
Everett moves to 1-0 in the tournament after outshooting Chicoutimi 37-25 and controlling much of the game, particularly during that decisive second.
Jesse Heslop opened the scoring just 1:14 into the first period for Everett before Chicoutimi answered midway through the frame when Christophe Berthelot tied the game at 9:13 off assists from Alexis Bernier and Anton Linde.
The Saguenéens briefly grabbed the lead early in the second period when Alex Huang scored at 5:39 with assists credited to Liam Lefebvre and Nathan Lecompte to make it 2-1.
Everett responded quickly.
Lukas Kaplan tied the game 33 seconds later off assists from Jaxsin Vaughan and Rylan Gould before the Silvertips seized control late in the period.
Zackary Shantz gave Everett a 3-2 lead at 13:55 with Heslop picking up the assist, and Carter Bear extended the advantage less than a minute later at 14:45 off a setup from Landon DuPont and Matias Vanhanen.
Chicoutimi pushed late in the third period and cut the deficit to one when Maxim Masse scored a power-play goal with 28 seconds remaining in regulation. Thomas Desruisseaux and Jordan Tourigny recorded assists on the play.
Everett answered seven seconds later when Vanhanen scored a shorthanded empty-net goal to restore the two-goal cushion and seal the victory.
Heslop finished with a goal and an assist for the Silvertips, while Vanhanen added a goal and an assist.
Everett goaltender Anders Miller stopped 22 of 25 shots for an .880 save percentage. Chicoutimi netminder Lucas Beckman made 32 saves on 36 shots and finished with an .889 save percentage.
The Silvertips outshot the Saguenéens 10-6 in the first period, 11-7 in the second and 16-12 in the third.
