CALGARY — The Calgary Flames scored twice on the power play and held off a late Minnesota push to beat the Wild 2–1 at the Saddledome.
Aydar Suniev and Joel Farabee scored in the first period, and Devin Cooley made several saves in the closing minutes as Calgary followed its win over defending Stanley Cup champion Carolina with another home victory.
Aydar Suniev opened the scoring on the power play at 10:49 with his third goal of the season. Adam Klapka sent a centring pass from below the goal line toward Yegor Sharangovich in the low slot. The puck deflected on the play, with Suniev credited with the goal and Klapka the assist.
Joel Farabee made it 2–0 on another power play at 14:06. Matt Coronato sent a diagonal pass from the left point to Morgan Frost at the right faceoff dot. Frost dropped to one knee for a one-timer, and the rebound came to Farabee near the bottom of the left circle. Farabee located the puck and scored as the goaltender moved back across.
Michael McCarron cut Minnesota's deficit to one at 4:39 of the third period, scoring on a one-timer from the right circle. Nico Sturm and Jonas Brodin assisted.
The Wild pressed with an extra attacker late, with Quinn Hughes, Kirill Kaprizov and Matt Boldy on the ice. Calgary missed two opportunities at the empty net but protected its lead behind Cooley's saves and a block by Kevin Bahl.
The Flames finished 2-for-4 on the power play and killed all four Minnesota opportunities.
