Cavalry defender Plocinski named to Canada U-16 squad for Costa Rica camp

CALGARY — Cavalry FC defender Kacper Plocinski has been named to Canada's men's U-16 national team squad for a November camp in Costa Rica, Canada Soccer announced Wednesday.

The 23-player squad will face Costa Rica on Nov. 11 and the United States on Nov. 14 at the FCRF-Plycem Complex in Alajuela, with both matches kicking off at 10 a.m. local time.

Plocinski is the squad's lone Cavalry FC player. The roster also draws from Vancouver Whitecaps FC, Toronto FC and CF Montréal, along with European clubs including Fulham, Genoa and Hajduk Split.

The camp is Canada's final one before the Concacaf U-17 qualifiers in February, the pathway to the FIFA U-17 World Cup. The squad is built from the 2010 age group.

"With this being our final camp before the U17 World Cup qualifiers in February, it's another valuable opportunity to work with the group and build on the progress we've made so far," head coach Mike Vitulano said in the release. "Facing two strong opponents will be a good test for our group as we look to continue improving as a team and ensure we're ready for the challenges in the coming months."
