ZURICH — The United States will host the first FIFA Women’s Club World Cup, FIFA announced Thursday as part of a set of decisions taken by the Bureau of the Council following last week’s Council meeting in Zurich.
The inaugural tournament will be played from January 5 to 30, 2028. Clubs will qualify based on their results in their confederation’s top club competition across the four-year qualifying period covering the seasons ending in 2024 and 2027.
The Bureau also signed off on the money model for the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2027. Preparation money rises to USD 2.5 million for each participating association, level with the men’s World Cup in 2026, and players at the women’s tournament will receive the same service levels as the men did in 2026. Any surplus from the tournament goes to the associations involved, with a set amount ring-fenced for players. More detail is expected at the Council’s December meeting.
The final phase of the FIFA Women’s Champions Cup 2027 has been moved to January 26 to 31, 2027 in Miami, with the two semi-finals scheduled on separate days.
Qatar will host the last three matches of the FIFA Intercontinental Cup 2026: the Derby of the Americas on December 9, the Challenger Cup on December 12 and the final on December 16.
FIFA also set the dates for the FIFA U-20 World Cup Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan 2027, which will run from September 17 to October 9, 2027, and appointed a normalisation committee for the Nigeria Football Federation, to serve until May 31, 2027 at the latest.
