CALGARY — Daan Klomp, Ali Musse and Tobias Warschewski have been named to the ten-player shortlist for the Canadian Premier League's Players' Player of the Year award.
The award is the only CPL honour voted on exclusively by the league's players, and players cannot vote for themselves or for a teammate. Voting is based on regular season performances, and the winner will be announced at the CPL Awards on November 19.
It is a second nomination this week for Klomp, who is also a finalist for Defender of the Year. The centre-back was central to Cavalry's CPL Shield-winning season, recording 97 clearances, 48 aerial duels won and 19 blocks, with no errors leading to a shot across 2,414 minutes. He led every CPL player, regardless of position, with 243 progressive carries, and scored six goals.
Musse recorded 12 goal contributions and finished the regular season with a goal contribution in six consecutive matches. He scored the first hat trick in Cavalry history in the club's 6-0 win over FC Supra du Québec. It is his fourth consecutive nomination for the award, which he won in 2023.
Warschewski set the CPL's single-season record with 10 assists as part of 21 goal contributions. His 11 goals made him the first player in league history to reach double digits in both goals and assists in a single season.
The winner receives a Muskox soapstone carving by Inuit artist Ruben Komangapik. Cavalry are back at ATCO Field on Saturday for the second leg of their CPL semifinal against FC Supra du Québec, trailing 2-1.
