Cavalry FC fall 3-2 to Atlético Ottawa on stoppage-time winner

Atlético Ottawa scored in the 10th minute of second-half stoppage time to beat Cavalry FC 3-2 at TD Place on Wednesday night, in the night's lone Canadian Premier League fixture.

Cavalry took the lead in the 9th minute through Eryk Kobza, set up by Ali Musse, and carried the 1-0 advantage into halftime. Kamron Habibullah turned it around for the hosts with goals in the 59th and 73rd minutes, before Tobias Warschewski levelled for Cavalry in the fourth minute of stoppage time off a feed from Owen Graham-Roache. Gabriel Antinoro had the final word, converting Jean-Aniel Assi's setup in the 100th minute to win it.

The result keeps Cavalry (15-3-5, 50 points) atop the table, but the door stays open in the CPL Shield race: second-place Forge FC (14-4-4, 46 points) can pull within a point with a win over the HFX Wanderers on Saturday. Cavalry visit Inter Toronto FC the same day. Kickoff in Ottawa was 5 p.m. MT / 7 p.m. ET.

Cavalry have already clinched a top-two seed for the CPL playoffs, which begin October 31 with two-legged semifinals — first hosts fourth and second hosts third, with the higher seed staging the second leg. The single-match Final for the North Star Cup is set for the weekend of November 21-22, hosted by the higher-seeded finalist. The regular-season champion also lifts the CPL Shield and earns a berth in the 2027 Concacaf Champions Cup.

Ottawa's win clinched the club's berth in the four-team playoff field, per the league's clinch scenarios released Wednesday. The regular season wraps up October 25.
