Flames erupt for three second-period goals in 3-1 preseason win over Canucks

CALGARY — Three goals in under four minutes turned a scoreless game into a comfortable win Tuesday night, as the Calgary Flames beat the Vancouver Canucks 3-1 in preseason action at the Scotiabank Saddledome.

After a scoreless first period, Joel Farabee broke the deadlock on the power play at 15:00 of the second, finishing a setup from Matvei Gridin and Zayne Parekh. Matt Coronato doubled the lead at 17:30 off a feed from Morgan Frost and Gridin, and Samuel Honzek made it 3-0 at 18:58 with Parekh and Farabee earning the assists.

Arshdeep Bains got Vancouver on the board at 6:22 of the third, his second goal of the preseason, with Braeden Cootes picking up his second assist of the preseason. That was all the offence the Canucks could generate.

Calgary dominated the shot clock 31-9. Dustin Wolf needed only eight saves to earn the win in a quiet night's work, while Kevin Lankinen stopped 28 of 31 at the other end.

Farabee (one goal, one assist), Gridin (two assists) and Parekh (two assists) each finished with two points for the Flames. Parekh logged 19:00 on the blue line and put four shots on goal, while Adam Klapka led all skaters with five shots. Kevin Bahl led Calgary's defence with 21:34 of ice time.
