Stampeders finalize roster ahead of season opener

CALGARY — The Calgary Stampeders finalized their roster Saturday as CFL training camp concluded, trimming their squad ahead of next week's regular-season opener against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.

Calgary released 20 players as part of the league's mandatory cutdown deadline, including defensive back Kam Alexander, running back Terion Stewart, linebacker Tyreem Powell, receiver Dante Wright and receiver Nunu Whatley.

The Stampeders also announced 12 additions to their practice roster, a group highlighted by quarterback Ben Wooldridge, running back Deonta McMahon, receiver Jeremiah Hunter, receiver Rashod Owens and kicker Jude McAtamney.

Several players who impressed during training camp will remain in the organization through the practice roster, giving Calgary added depth and developmental options as the season begins.

National offensive linemen Mitchel Schechinger and Jack Warrack were placed on the retired list as both return to university.

The roster moves bring training camp to a close and provide greater clarity on Calgary's opening-week roster heading into a season that begins with high expectations following an encouraging camp.

The Stampeders will open the 2026 regular season on Friday, June 5, when they host the Winnipeg Blue Bombers at McMahon Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. MT.
