Stampeders lock up Vernon Adams Jr. through 2028

CALGARY — The Calgary Stampeders have secured stability at quarterback, signing U.S. quarterback Vernon Adams Jr. to a two-year contract extension that keeps him with the organization through the 2028 CFL season.

Adams had originally been set to become a free agent after the 2026 campaign.

“We are excited to extend Vernon for two more years through the 2028 season,” said Dave Dickenson. “Consistent quarterback play is vital to maintain long-term success. We’ve prioritized getting as many core players extended as possible and, by extending Vernon, we’ve secured another long-term piece to our organization.”

The veteran pivot is entering his second season with Calgary after arriving in a trade from the BC Lions following the 2024 season.

In 2025, Adams started 17 regular-season games for the Stampeders and led Calgary to an 11-6 record. The dual-threat quarterback completed 280 of 429 passes for 4,247 yards with 21 touchdowns and 14 interceptions while adding 332 rushing yards and two scores on 40 carries.

He also delivered a strong postseason performance in the Western Semi-Final, throwing for 334 yards and two touchdowns while completing 23 of 33 pass attempts.

“I’m very grateful and very thankful for the opportunity that has been given to me and for the chance to extend my time with the team for another two years,” Adams said. “I love it here in Calgary, I love my teammates and I’ve always wanted to play for the White Horse.”

Across nine CFL seasons, Adams has appeared in 118 regular-season games and owns a 49-28 record as a starter. The Pasadena, California product has thrown for 20,437 career yards and 117 touchdowns while adding nearly 2,000 rushing yards and 26 rushing scores.
