Stamps add lineman Lewis, bring back DB Coley Jr.
CALGARY — The Calgary Stampeders continued reshaping their roster Thursday, signing U.S. offensive lineman Martes Lewis while also bringing back U.S. defensive back Corey Coley Jr.
Lewis arrives in Calgary after recently attending rookie mini-camp with the Washington Commanders and adds another large body to the Stampeders’ offensive front heading deeper into training camp.
The 6-foot-6, 325-pound lineman spent the 2025 collegiate season at Northwestern Wildcats, starting 11 games in 13 appearances. Before transferring to Northwestern, Lewis played five seasons at Minnesota Golden Gophers football, appearing in 51 games and making 16 starts.
During the 2023 season with Minnesota, Lewis helped anchor an offence that produced more than 2,200 rushing yards and 29 total offensive touchdowns.
The Stampeders also re-signed U.S. defensive back Coley less than two weeks after releasing him during camp roster adjustments.
The Jacksonville, Fla., product originally joined Calgary in January and now gets another opportunity to compete for a role in the secondary.
Coley played his senior season at NC State Wolfpack football, recording eight tackles and two pass breakups in six games. Prior to transferring to NC State, he spent three seasons at Maryland Terrapins football, where he appeared in 32 games and totalled 27 tackles with three defended passes.
In other roster moves, Calgary placed national defensive linemen Daniel Joseph and Justin Sambu on the six-game injured list.
