Tyreik McAllister named CFL Player of the Week

CALGARY — Tyreik McAllister’s historic performance in Winnipeg has earned him CFL Player of the Week honours.



The Calgary Stampeders running back became the first player in league history to score rushing, receiving and kick return touchdowns in the same game during Calgary’s 52-30 victory over the Blue Bombers on Friday.



“Tyreik did some things that have never been done,” Stampeders head coach Dave Dickenson said Tuesday. “We’re happy that he was recognized.”



McAllister completed the historic trio in the first half.



He opened the scoring with a 17 yard touchdown run before catching a 56 yard pass from Vernon Adams Jr. for his second score. McAllister then returned a missed field goal 118 yards for a touchdown to extend Calgary’s lead to 22-7.



He finished with 318 all purpose yards, including 118 on a missed field goal return, 79 on four kickoff returns, 62 on two receptions, 42 on three punt returns and 17 on his only carry.



Dickenson said several players delivered strong performances during Week 8, but McAllister’s unprecedented accomplishment made him a deserving selection.



“I don’t know if they give out any awards or anything as far as what you get except for pride,” Dickenson said. “But we’re happy that he was recognized.”



McAllister has accumulated 1,252 all purpose yards and five touchdowns this season. Friday’s performance included his third return touchdown of the year.



He scored on a 120 yard missed field goal return against Saskatchewan in Week 3 and added a 90 yard punt return touchdown at BC in Week 4.



McAllister is the third Calgary player to receive a weekly CFL honour this season. Adams was selected following Week 5, while running back Dedrick Mills earned the recognition in Week 7.
