Vernon Adams Jr. named CFL Player of the Week after 422-yard night in Ottawa

Vernon Adams Jr. is stacking weekly honours.

The Calgary Stampeders quarterback has been named a CFL Player of the Week after carving up the Ottawa Redblacks last Saturday, the league announced Tuesday. It is the second time this season Adams has earned the honour.

Adams completed 80 per cent of his passes, going 24-of-30 for a season-high 422 yards and three touchdowns in Week 17. He spread the scores to three different pass-catchers while three receivers each topped 100 yards, and he was not intercepted.

The 422-yard night was his second 400-yard performance of the year.

Through 14 games, the Pasadena, Calif., native and former Oregon Duck is 257-of-400 for 3,683 yards and 30 touchdowns against five interceptions. He has added 37 carries for 301 yards and three scores on the ground.

For his career, Adams has completed 1,690 of 2,619 passes for 24,120 yards with 147 touchdowns and 73 interceptions, plus 382 rushes for 2,277 yards and 29 touchdowns.

The weekly selections are made by a panel of representatives from the CFL's football operations, player and game statistics, and content departments.

Stampeders players have now collected five Player of the Week nods this season: Adams in Weeks 5 and 17, Dedrick Mills in Week 7, Tyreik McAllister in Week 8 and Jalen Philpot in Week 16.
