Wranglers Add John Dean to Coaching Staff

CALGARY — The Calgary Wranglers added an experienced voice behind the bench Friday, announcing the hiring of John Dean as an assistant coach.

Dean joins the organization after spending the past eight seasons as head coach of the OHL's Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds. During his tenure, he became the longest-serving head coach in franchise history and compiled a 247-178-49 record over 472 games.

The 45-year-old brings a lengthy coaching résumé to Calgary, with experience spanning nearly two decades across junior hockey and international competition. Dean has also represented Canada at the U17 and U18 levels, earning medals at both tournaments.

His arrival creates a reunion with several players already familiar with his coaching style. Current Wranglers defenceman Etienne Morin played for Dean at the international level, while Wranglers forward Rory Kerins and Calgary Flames forward Morgan Frost were among the players he coached during his time in Sault Ste. Marie.

Dean joins a Wranglers coaching staff led by Brett Sutter and consisting of assistant coach David Liffiton, goaltending development coach Mackenzie Skapski and video coach Chandler Biggar.

The American Hockey League is expected to announce its 2026-27 regular season schedule in July as teams continue preparations for the upcoming campaign.
