Wranglers cut it to one before Silver Knights pull away late in 8-3 final

CALGARY — The Calgary Wranglers lost 8-3 to the Henderson Silver Knights on Thursday night at the Saddledome.

The game included a stretch where Calgary cut the deficit to one, but Henderson answered quickly and pulled away late.

Henderson led 3-0 after the first period, outshooting Calgary 13-1.

The lead grew to 4-0 early in the second when Mitch McLain tipped one in front.

At 6:40, David Silye got Calgary on the board, tapping in his second of the season from the doorstep. Parker Bell and Nick Cicek recorded the assists to make it 4-1.

At 13:03, captain Clark Bishop scored his ninth of the season, beating the Henderson goaltender to a loose puck after he came out to challenge and putting it up top into the empty cage. Brennan Othmann picked up his 12th assist, bringing Calgary within two. Bishop now has three goals in his last four games.

Late in the second, Arsenii Sergeev made a glove save on Jeremy Davies to keep the deficit at two.

In the third, Martin Frk made it 4-3, finishing a play from Justin Kirkland and Mirmanov. Frk now has five goals in his last two games.

Henderson restored separation with two goals in quick succession from Alexander Holtz and Kmic to make it 6-3. Calgary native Kai Uchacz assisted on the second goal, drawing a noticeable reaction from the crowd.

The Silver Knights added two more late to make it 8-3.

Arsenii Sergeev made 36 saves on 44 shots.

Calgary opens a road trip Saturday night in Bakersfield.
