Sherwood Park's Adalyn Fairweather named to Canada's U-17 Women's World Cup roster

Jen Herst has named her 21-player squad for the FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup Morocco 2026, and one Albertan is on the plane: Sherwood Park midfielder Adalyn Fairweather.

Fairweather, who plays her club soccer with Vancouver Rise FC through a Youth Development Permit, is the lone Alberta representative on the roster Canada Soccer unveiled Tuesday.

Canada opens Group C play against Brazil on Sunday, Oct. 18 at 8 a.m. MT (10 a.m. ET), a rematch of last year's quarterfinal in Morocco, where Brazil ended Canada's run 5-4 on penalties after a scoreless draw. Norway follows on Wednesday, Oct. 21 and Ghana on Saturday, Oct. 24, with all three group matches at the Women's Football Complex in Rabat and all three kicking off at 8 a.m. MT.

The squad gathers in Rabat on Oct. 7 for a final preparation camp, including a closed-door friendly against host Morocco on Oct. 11, before moving to its tournament base on Oct. 14.

Canada earned its ninth trip to the tournament by sweeping Group A at the Concacaf U-17 Qualifiers final round in Costa Rica, beating Nicaragua 5-0, the Dominican Republic 7-0 and El Salvador 5-0.

Twenty of the 21 players return from August's camp in Atlanta, where Canada beat Chile 3-0, drew Mexico 1-1 and fell 4-1 to the United States. Four players are back from last year's World Cup squad: Mélyna Alexis, Gabriela Istocki, Lacey Kindel and Reed Tingley.

"We're really excited to bring this group together for the World Cup," Herst said in Canada Soccer's announcement. "We want the players to embrace that challenge, represent Canada with pride and make the most of the opportunity."
