Calgary Wild rout Mont-Royal Outremont 4-0, reach W Canadian Championship semifinals

CALGARY — The Calgary Wild are two wins from a continental shot.

Mya Jones scored twice and Calgary rolled CS Mont-Royal Outremont 4-0 on Aug. 5 at ATCO Field in Foothills County, reaching the semifinals of the inaugural W Canadian Championship. Taylor Otto and Serita Thurton added goals in front of 1,124 fans.

The eight-team tournament is Canada's domestic pathway to the 2027 Concacaf W Champions Cup and the 2028 FIFA Women's Club World Cup. Single legs, extra time and penalties if needed. The semifinals and final go in 2027.

Calgary's road got some fresh context this week. FIFA announced Sunday that the 2027 FIFA Women's Champions Cup, the intercontinental club showcase, will stage its semifinals, bronze final and trophy decider at Nu Stadium in Miami on Jan. 27 and 31. Mexico's Club América Femenil is already there, and its ticket came from winning the Concacaf W Champions Cup. That is the same continental trophy the Wild are now chasing through this cup. The dots connect.

Three quarterfinals are done: Ottawa Rapid FC needed extra time to beat Halifax 3-2, and Simcoe County Rovers stunned Montreal Roses FC 1-0 in Laval. The last quarterfinal is Oct. 4: AFC Toronto vs. Vancouver Rise FC at York Lions Stadium.

For a club in its second season, this is the good stuff. The league campaign has been a grind. The cup is where the Wild can dream a little bigger.
