TORONTO — Alphonso Davies is back as captain as Canada named a 23-man squad Tuesday for the Concacaf Nations League quarterfinal against Guatemala.
Canada open the two-legged series Friday, Nov. 13, at Estadio Manuel Felipe Carrera in Guatemala City (8 p.m. ABT), with the second leg Monday, Nov. 16, at BMO Field in Toronto (7 p.m. ABT).
The winner of the series advances to the Nations League Finals at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles in March 2027 and qualifies directly for the 2027 Concacaf Gold Cup. The loser goes into the Gold Cup preliminary round.
"This is an important window for us," said Canada head coach Jesse Marsch. "There's a Nations League Finals place and a Gold Cup spot on the line, and we know how tough it will be to go to Guatemala City and get a result. We want to take care of business there, then come home to BMO Field and finish the job in front of our fans."
Canada went straight into the quarterfinals as one of the four top-ranked nations in the region, alongside Mexico, the United States and Panama. Guatemala won League A Group B to reach the Nations League quarterfinals for the first time in the program's history.
The series renews a fresh rivalry. Guatemala eliminated Canada in a penalty shootout in the 2025 Gold Cup quarterfinals, before Canada answered with a 1-0 win over Guatemala in Los Angeles in January.
Maxime Crépeau of Orlando City SC, Owen Goodman of Dundee FC and Dayne St. Clair of Inter Miami CF are the three goalkeepers. Goodman is on loan at Dundee from Crystal Palace.
The defenders are Richard Chukwu (Toronto FC), Davies (Bayern Munich), Luc de Fougerolles (Real Salt Lake), Jovan Ivanisevic (FK Sarajevo), Richie Laryea (Toronto FC), Ralph Priso (Vancouver Whitecaps FC), Niko Sigur (Toulouse FC) and Joel Waterman (Chicago Fire FC). De Fougerolles is on loan at Real Salt Lake from Fulham.
The midfielders are Tajon Buchanan (Villarreal CF), Mathieu Choinière (LAFC), Kevin Khan (Feyenoord), Liam Millar (Birmingham City), Jonathan Osorio (Toronto FC), Nathan Saliba (Villarreal CF) and Jacob Shaffelburg (LAFC). Millar is on loan at Birmingham City from Hull City.
The forwards are Jonathan David (Atlético de Madrid), Promise David (Brighton & Hove Albion), Daniel Jebbison (AFC Bournemouth), Tani Oluwaseyi (Villarreal CF) and Jacen Russell-Rowe (Toulouse FC). Jonathan David is on loan at Atlético from Juventus, and Promise David is on loan at Brighton from Royale Union Saint-Gilloise.
The two matches close out Canada's 2026, a year that included a run to the Round of 16 at the World Cup. Both legs air on TSN, RDS and OneSoccer. Tickets for the home leg at BMO Field are on sale through Ticketmaster, starting at $55.
