Spain edge DPR Korea in shootout to win U-20 Women’s World Cup

ŁÓDŹ, Poland — Spain are women's U-20 world champions again, defeating holders DPR Korea 4-3 in a penalty shootout on Sunday to win the FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup Poland 2026 at Stadion Miejski ŁKS Łódź.

The final between the winners of the previous two editions — DPR Korea, the reigning champions, and Spain, the 2022 winners — stayed finely balanced until the final whistle, with Spain's goalkeeper delivering a standout performance before the Europeans prevailed from the spot in front of a loud crowd.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino was in attendance, joined by FIFA Chief Football Officer Jill Ellis and FIFA Chief Women's Football Officer Dame Sarai Bareman, who congratulated the medal-winning teams on their tournament performances.

The title is Spain's second at the FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup.

A day earlier at the same venue, Colombia claimed third place, beating Italy 4-3 in a penalty shootout after a 1-1 draw in the bronze final.

The tournament brings together the world's best young women's footballers every two years. The next edition takes place in 2028, with venues still to be announced.
