Bulldogs earn trip to 2026 Memorial Cup through CHL community contest
CALGARY — A Burlington minor hockey team is heading to the 2026 Memorial Cup presented by Kubota after being recognized for its community leadership through the Canadian Hockey League’s Dr. Oetker Giuseppe Pizzeria Practice with a Pro contest.
The U10 BB Burlington Bulldogs were announced Tuesday as the national grand prize winners following a season of fundraising, volunteer work, and community outreach initiatives across Burlington, Ont.
The team will receive a trip to Kelowna, B.C. for the 2026 Memorial Cup, including game access, fan experiences, a private pizza party, and an on-ice session with Hockey Hall of Famer and former WHL star Jarome Iginla.
According to the CHL, the Bulldogs raised $1,640 and collected 24 grocery bags of donations for families facing food insecurity. The team also helped create 500 cards for veterans through the Burlington Legion, visited seniors, and organized toy donations during the holiday season.
“Through Dr. Oetker Giuseppe Practice with a Pro contest, we’re proud to celebrate young people who show that hockey can make a meaningful impact far beyond the rink,” CHL Vice-President of Partnerships Ryan Hudecki said in a release.
Head coach Steve Tyler said the experience helped teach players the impact of teamwork and service within their community.
“Throughout the experience, the kids discovered how powerful small acts of kindness can be when they come together with a shared purpose,” Tyler said.
The annual contest, launched in 2023, highlights grassroots hockey teams across Canada that demonstrate leadership, teamwork, and community involvement away from the rink.
The 2026 Memorial Cup is scheduled for May 21–31 in Kelowna and will feature the playoff champions from the WHL, OHL, and QMJHL alongside host team Kelowna Rockets.
