Stampeders enter CFL draft with seven selections, pick sixth overall
CALGARY — Draft night offers the Calgary Stampeders a measured balance of opportunity and constraint, with seven selections shaping how the club approaches both immediate roster needs and long-term depth.
Calgary is scheduled to make its first selection at sixth overall when the 2026 CFL Canadian Draft begins Tuesday at 5 p.m. MT, placing the organization within reach of top-end National talent early in the process.
Beyond the opening round, the Stampeders’ draft capital is concentrated in later selections, highlighted by back-to-back picks in the third round. That structure reflects a series of calculated roster decisions made over the past year.
The club moved its second-round selection as part of the November 2024 acquisition of quarterback Vernon Adams Jr., prioritizing immediate offensive stability. Calgary also dealt its fourth-round pick last September in a trade that brought in defensive lineman Lorenzo Mauldin IV, reinforcing the defensive front with proven experience.
Those moves leave Calgary with a draft profile that emphasizes efficiency. The first-round pick carries expectations of early contribution, while the cluster of mid-to-late round selections presents opportunities to identify special teams contributors and developmental pieces.
The Stampeders’ full slate of Canadian Draft selections includes:
Round 1: 6th overall
Round 3: 26th overall
Round 3: 27th overall (via BC)
Round 5: 44th overall
Round 6: 53rd overall
Round 7: 62nd overall
Round 8: 71st overall
Coverage of the first two rounds will be broadcast on TSN and TSN+, with rounds three through eight available on TSN+.
Calgary will remain active the following day with the CFL Global Draft, holding the sixth overall pick in the first round and the 15th selection in the second. The event provides an additional pathway to add international talent as teams continue to expand roster versatility.
For the Stampeders, the draft represents a continuation of a broader roster strategy that has already leaned on targeted acquisitions. Over the next two days, Calgary has the chance to complement those moves with a new wave of talent aimed at reinforcing depth and sustaining competitiveness heading into the season.
